U Club Zoom Meeting

U Club programs and meetings remain on Zoom.

Dear University Club Members and Friends,

At our September 2021 Board meeting, the Board addressed the question of reopening the Club for in-person meetings. The clear majority of the responses to our questionnaire was that we should delay in doing so. We also considered other issues, particularly the health concerns regarding Covid. Furthermore, the speakers who have thus far committed would not all be available to meet in-person.

Therefore, we will postpone reopening until after the start of 2022. During that time, we will continue our Zoom events as scheduled. When we do reopen, there will be safety precautions such as mask requirement, social distancing, etc. The question of lunches will also have to be postponed because we need to await permission from the city. We are also exploring the possibility of “hybrid” meetings, in which members can either come in person or participate by Zoom.

We will continue to keep everyone abreast of the situation. We’re looking forward to continue our current programs and to see everyone as soon as possible. The dates and times of the committees remain the same, and programs will be scheduled.

November 2021 Zoom Meetings

“Challenges and Opportunities facing the City of Claremont”
Presented by Mayor Jennifer Stark.

Mayor Jennifer Stark

Tuesday, November 16th at 1:00 PM on Zoom*

Speaker: Claremont City Mayor Jennifer Stark

Mayor Jennifer Stark is serving her first term on the Claremont City Council (November 2018 – November 2022) following the 2018 mid-term elections in which she was the top vote-getter among three new council members.

Jennifer’s commitment to serving the community of Claremont is rooted in her appreciation for those who have served before her. Jennifer was born and raised in Claremont, and she and her husband David Berke have raised their three children here. A product of Claremont’s public schools herself, Jennifer spent countless hours over several decades volunteering in them as a parent. In addition to her community service work, Jennifer teaches yoga at Pomona College. She is an alumna of Pitzer College.

Mayor Stark has served as a Traffic and Transportation commissioner and as a member of the boards of Claremont Heritage and Friends of the Claremont Library. She volunteers for Sustainable Claremont as a Certified Tree Steward and is a proud member of the League of Women Voters, the Democratic Club of Claremont, Kiwanis Club, and the University Club. She is exceptionally honored to be a founder of Claremont Canopy, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help refugees thrive in their new communities.
